FAQs (Teachers)What is the El Paso Electric LivingWise Program?The El Paso Electric LivingWise Program was developed to teach students easy ways to use energy more efficiently in their homes. Program content supports New Mexico Academic State Standards so you can easily integrate the program into the existing 5th grade curriculum. What is included in the El Paso Electric LivingWise Program?The El Paso Electric LivingWise Program comes complete with a teacher book filled with lesson plans and engaging activities that can be used inside and outside of the classroom. Each teacher and student will receive an individual Student Guide, Student Workbook, and an El Paso Electric LivingWise Kit. The kit includes energy efficient products that will help students implement classroom lessons at home. Kit items include:
What are the participation requirements?Participation requirements are minimal. This program is offered for 5th grade students in El Paso Electric’s service territory. All we ask in return for your participation in the program is that your students complete a short Student Survey. The Student Survey contains a pre- and post-program quiz. Survey responses help gauge the knowledge gained by each student during the program. If your students take a pledge to be energy efficient and return their Student Surveys, each student will receive a wristband and an El Paso Electric Certificate of Achievement! A self-addressed postage-paid return envelope is provided in your Teacher Materials. Is there an enrollment deadline?There are a limited number of kits available for each school year. If you are interested in participating, enroll now Is there a cost to participate in the El Paso Electric LivingWise Program?There is no cost to you, your students, or your school district to participate in the El Paso Electric LivingWise Program. Resource Action Programs® develops and implements the El Paso Electric LivingWise Program on behalf of El Paso Electric. Are there a maximum number of kits for each class?One kit will be provided for each student enrolled in your class. There is not a maximum number of kits for each class; however, there are a limited number of kits for each school year. When this maximum number of kits has been reached, no more classrooms will be able to participate until the following school year. If I enroll in the program how will my school benefit?Your school will get to work with El Paso Electric on a select program that can make an impact in your community. In addition to teaching lessons that promote lifelong wise use of energy, each participating teacher will receive a gift card for their classroom when 80 percent of their student surveys are completed and returned. What do I do if a CFL breaks?Due to the small amount of mercury a CFL contains, we recommend you take some simple precautions when cleaning up a broken CFL. Visit the Environmental Protection Agency for up-to-date instructions on how to properly dispose of a broken CFL. How and where can I recycle my light bulbs?The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suggests that CFL light bulbs be recycled when they are no longer in use. When the CFL is no longer in use, replace it with a new CFL or LED Light Bulb. Locally, light bulbs can be recycled for free at various participating retailers, recycling or solid waste centers.
